Spinach and Gruyere Breakfast Strata

This is a good way to begin your day, and all you do is put it into the cooker at night and you will have it done by the morning. The meal itself is savory and delicious, and ideal for a brunch with friends or family.

To begin, get half a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, 1 finely chopped garlic clove, half a large chopped onion, 1 teaspoon of salt, separated 1-pound challah bread that is cut into 1-inch cubes, 8 beaten large eggs, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 cup of whole milk, quarter of a teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, a quarter teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of mustard, 5 ounces of shredded Gruyere, and 4 ounces of baby spinach.

To start off, you need to put oil in the cooker at a high heat of around 350° F. Put the garlic, onion and some seasoning with it. Sauté the vegetables for a few minutes in this high heat. Once these change color, you can then set the cooker to Slow Cook, with low heat and the timer set at 3.5 hours.  Put everything else into the cooker, including the Gruyere and spinach, and mix the entire thing thoroughly. Then cook it for the entire duration of the timer that was set after covering the slow cooker with the lid.

After the time elapses, the slow cooker automatically switches to Keep Warm temperature. Take it out and serve it in 1-cup servings.

Rustic Tomato Soup

Rustic tomato soups have a natural taste with the entire host of ingredients that go into it. The tomato gives it a sweet flavor, which when given the right blend of seasoning is elevated to another level of richness.

You will need the following ingredients: 3 separate tablespoons of olive oil, 3 and a half pound of tomatoes that are halved and had their seeds taken out, 3 smashed garlic cloves, a finely chopped medium or large onion, 2 finely chopped medium carrots, 2 chopped celery stalks, 2 pinches of kosher salt, a pinch of freshly ground black pepper, 2 teaspoons of dried basil, a teaspoon of marjoram, 6 sun-dried tomatoes, quarter teaspoon of baking soda, 4 cups of vegetable stock, 1 and a half teaspoons of separate kosher salt and 3-quarter of a teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper.

To begin, preheat the cooker at 400° F while the setting is set to Sauté. Once the temperature stabilizes, start by putting in a tablespoon of olive oil and half of the entire batch of tomatoes, with the skin facing down on the cooker. Let the tomatoes sit for around 5 minutes as the tomatoes change color. Turn it around every 5 minutes until the tomatoes have changed color on both sides. Then take off the tomatoes and repeat with the other half of the tomatoes.

Once this set of tomatoes brown, you can reduce the temperature to 350° F. Add the rest of the tomatoes into the slow cooker, along with the garlic, onion, carrots, celery, and the seasoning. Sauté the entire thing in one go, making sure it softens and changes to a golden color. This ought to take around 8 to 10 minutes max, moving it around every once in a while.

Next, add everything else into the cooker. Stir everything together until properly blended. Now, make sure to change the setting to Slow Cook, with the temperature set to Low. Cover the cooker with the lid, set the timer to 4 hours, and let the cooker do its magic.

After the 4 hours have passed, the cooker changes heat settings to Keep Warm. You can put the tomato mixture into an immersion blender to smoothen the tomato. You can add more seasoning to taste. If you use a regular blender, separate the liquids and the solids, and put in liquid and solid in the blender in a 2:1 ratio. Once all of it is done, you are ready to serve tasty tomato soup.

Beef Stew

Beef stew is one of the easiest slow-cooked foods that you can make. Not only does it not necessitate sautéing (although doing so has some benefits) you could also just put all the correct ingredients in and let it cook slowly.

Get ready by gathering the following: 3 pounds of beef chuck cut into 1 or 2 inch cubes, 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, half a teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, 1 finely chopped medium leek with only the white and green parts, 1 medium sized finely chopped onion, 2 sliced medium carrots cut into ½ inch sizes, 1 sliced medium parsnip cut into half-inch rounds, 1 thinly sliced medium celery stalk, 1 pound of white or red potatoes that are cut into 1-inch sized rounds, 8 peeled whole garlic cloves, 6 ounces of quarter cremini mushrooms, half a tablespoon of de Provence, a bay leaf, 3-quarter of a cup of dry red wine, 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, 2.5 cups of low sodium beef stock, a cup of green peas and a quarter cup of parsley leaves, finely chopped.

To start, all you do is put all the ingredients apart from the peas and the parsley into the slow cooker. Mix it together properly till it blends in well. Once it sits in, set the cooker to the Slow Cook setting while having the heat set at Low. Set the timer of the cooker to 16 hours and start the cooking.

After the cooking is done, the unit will switch modes to Keep Warm. At this point, you just add the peas and parsley into the stew, and then season it according to what meets your need.

You also have the option of sautéing the meat before putting it into the cooker. In that case, sauté the beef till it starts browning, with the temperate at 400° F and with the mode set at Brown/Sauté.  You could also reduce the cooking time to around 8-10 hours, but remember that the goal is to have the meat as tender as possible. Reducing time may not achieve that goal.

Apple Butter

Can’t end the list without dessert, so let’s prepare an easy dessert supplement, shall we? To start off, you will need applesauce, 1 cup of packed light brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of ground allspice, 1 teaspoon of freshly ground nutmeg, and half a teaspoon of ground cloves.

Begin by putting all the ingredients into the slow cooker. Mix it all together and let it sit. Set the slow cooker at Slow Cook for a time of 2 hours, with a low heat temperature. Of course, you can range the time between 1 to 3 hours depending on how thick you want it.

Once the time ends, bring out the apple butter and apply it to anything from toast, pancakes or waffles. Easy dessert!
